tres de mayo

The cinco just wouldn't work for our schedules so we celebrated Cinco de Mayo early this year. On the tres to be exact. Actually, I've never celebrated this "holiday" before, but I felt an overwhelming urge to do it this year. You might think this is an odd desire, but I come from a family that religiously honors Civil Rights Day. I thought, "Why not Cinco de Mayo, too?"
And why not? The food is so tastey! Seeing as we are poor, all we could do was celebrate with food. I really wanted a pinata and Mexican flag, though! Maybe when Josh gets a job. :)
Tres leches. Delicious. So good it could kill you.

After dinner I googled "Cinco de Mayo" to educate my family on the true history. Read it. I think you'll be surprised to learn that...Cinco de Mayo is really only celebrated by people in the United States! What the what?!

That's news to me. Our Mexico office gets it off as a paid holiday. We've been suspecting that they make up holidays to get off work though. Like today, they're all home for "Influenza Prevention Day" for something called "Swine Flu." Sounds made up to me.

You were too correct in your naming of this post... you should have been more "Obama-ish" and called it the cinco de tres.
