springtime in Kirksville

neighborhood clean up
For the next week or so you can put anything you want on the street and the city will come pick it up for free. Unless it will fill more than one dumpster...then you need to make special arrangements. Cleaning up is good, but something very peculiar is going on now. This garbage pile belongs to the people across the street. I have personally witnessed several trucks slowly drive up and park. The driver will then get out to examine the cache for any treasures. This morning one lucky scavenger found an old lawnmower! It's like a free yard sale! I'm betting this is some residents' favorite time of year.
The Jesus Signs
These have been popping up around our neighborhood. I've been thinking a lot about them and I have a few questions:
Jesus what? Jesus saves. Jesus loves you. Jesus for city council. Not very specific.
Where did they come from? Is a specific church handing them out or do you get one at the local Jesus House Christian book store?
How long are they going to be displayed in yards? Is this an Easter/Spring thing or a permanent fixture?
Do I need one in my own yard?

You DEFINITELY need to get a Jesus sign. You should have Venna draw it.

I agree, make your own Jesus sign. That one is really boring!

We were wondering the same thing...and we are going to go to City Hall on Easter and see if we can't vote Him in. And I want one. I'm Christian, so it seems only plausible that I need to have one in my yard to PROVE it.
p.s. Would you like to scavenge with me tomorrow? :)

He's got my vote! So, Milwaukee has the same tradition with leaving unwanted items for others on the curb. Sometimes, however, it really is just meant for garbage. I had to save a lady once from taking a chair that I knew was meant for the dumpster only. (It had belonged to my upstairs neighbor before she died, her body hadn't worked properly for a long time and the smell in the chair would never go away, if you know what I mean.)
