Here are the things I want to remember from training:
Training Buddy this time around I trained with Aimee. We trained well together. We actually started at the beginning of Hal Higdon's training program and followed it religiously.
Sarah met up with us for parts of long runs. She wasn't training for anything. She just likes to run 12 miles for the fun of it. Crazy.
Between the 3 of us there was always something to talk about. Have you ever heard running is cheaper than therapy? Its true.
Animals Dogs are evil. One actually bit Aimee while we were running. She's so awesome. She finished the run. On every run after that any bark at all made us jump.
Owls are big. We saw an owl perched on a fence post. He didn't fly away. He did turn his head to watch us go by.
Deer are weird. We ran a lot to the lake. We usually saw a few deer early in the mornings, but one morning we ran by about 15 all standing in one clearing. They didn't move. Really unsettling. I would not have been surprised if one had said, "Good morning for a run."

The actual race:
Redemption Two years ago I ran the Kansas City half marathon. It was my first real race. It was hard for a lot of reasons. I was surprised to see how far I've come as a runner by running the same course again. The first big hill almost killed me last time. This time? Ran up it talking the whole way. Last time I almost cried at mile 6. This time? 6 miles? No big deal.
Motivation Aimee heard of an excellent idea: Dedicate each mile to a different person. After I split off from Aimee (and Jenny, a friend who moved away but we met up for the race) I used this strategy. Amazing. It helped to think of people who are doing harder things than running. Mile 23: Caleb and Michelle. Caleb is in Afghanistan. Michelle isn't.
Mile 24: My mom and Dad. They were leaving for their mission two days after the race. My mom is so brave to go somewhere where they speak Finnish.
Mile 25: Josh. I hope no one saw my face during this mile because I cried. I wouldn't even be running if it weren't for him. He's actually going to graduate from medical school in 7 months. I love him.
Mile 26: Venna, Jonah, Tucker
You're supposed to run the last .2 for yourself. I ran my heart out and finished in 4:27.
Next time...under 4 hours!

I want to be like you, toooo!
You are awesome!

A few things:
1. When I saw you had posted about your marathon, I took my iPad into my room and plopped down on my bed to give your post my full attention.
2. It made me cry, as marathon posts always do.
3. For a minute, I didn't get the shirts. I thought they were the kids' ages, but then I realized that wasn't right. Ha!
4. Be proud of those colorful feet! Then go buy some new (bigger) running shoes.
5. I registered for my second half marathon. Who would have ever thought that you,Tiffany, and I would all turn out to be runners?!
6. I'm totally going to dedicate my miles during my next race. I love that idea!
way to go!! a marathon is on my bucket list -- ha! someday?!-- but look at you, you're actually doing it. wow, sooooo cool. you are awesome!
You truly are amazing. And there is a good possibility that this post made me cry. I already miss training. I couldn't have it without you. I love you and your black toes.
You forgot me. I was even there! Holy Crap. This relationship isn't worth the money I put into it.
Wow, you totally motivate me to push harder at everything I do! We should go get pedicures together and then we would be embarrassed at the same time cause my feet look just like yours (and I don't run as far as you!) You are so awesome and I know I say this a lot but I really hope to run one with you someday.
Oh yay, you look so AMAZING!
Way to go!! You are awesome girl and can I just say you look so hot :) So when is your next one? Are you going to do the Oz one again because I want to do that one. Anyway, take care of those poor feet and a job well freakin done on marathon #2!!
Megan, way to go on your marathon. That's such an accomplishment and those most satisfying experience EVER. And you've done 2. Awesome.
Wow. Again you inspire me. You and Aimee are totally awesome. I don't know if I'll ever be as righteous as you:)
