the long vacay

We drove to Utah. In one stinkin' day. I can't believe we survived. It was worth the effort. I was lazy and didn't take many pictures. We'll just have to keep all of the warm memories in our hearts. gag. We mostly sat around and recovered from driving, school, and life.
The most monumental event was my dad's retirement! Congratulations, Dad, you deserve that big screen and 2 years of western movies.

THE CABIN. What I've been waiting for all year. We played with cousins, experienced The Parade, enjoyed talking to people we haven't seen in an entire year, witnessed fireworks, and so much more...
Josh attempted fly fishing for the first time. I don't think he'll pick it up as a hobby anytime soon seeing as he sucked at it.
What the what?! You move to Alaska and you have to grow a mountain man beard? Benji rocked the beard. (Josh is jealous he can't grow one that sweet.)
After Vernal we took an excursion to Colorado to be with the Burkhardts. Colorado is purdy. I'm not a photographer.
Grand Lake was nice. You could lose a toe or two if you stayed in the water too long.
Venna and Jonah commandeered some unsuspecting childrens' beach toys.
One of our favorite activities was the Alpine Slide. Venna and Jonah couldn't get enough of it. I can't believe we were crazy enough to take Jonah on a ski lift-multiple times.

We went river rafting! (Jonah stayed home with Grandma and Johnathan.) I was afraid that it would take a load of encouragement to get Venna in the boat. Suprisingly, she did a great job...until she got wet. Don't worry, she didn't melt. Josh and I jumped from a 25 foot cliff into the river! You can see us here. (Venna's tiny blonde head is next to the big green t-shirt towards the back of the raft.)

The Burkhardts love Winter Park, Colorado. It lived up to the hype that has been building up for nearly 6 years. The house we stayed in was amazing. We loved playing games and hanging out with everyone. Thank you, Grandpa Kenny and Grandma Beth!!

I'm going to pretend your drive to UT (in one day no less) was superb and wonderful. I say this, 'cause in September I get to drive out there in one day with my three kids...alone. (Hubby has to work, so he flies in day of wedding...lucky him.)

The pictures are great! Looks like you all had a blast.

Oh good. I guess that means your Mom got the pictures. We had such a good time visiting with you. I hope it isn't next year when we get to see you, but I'll take whatever I can get.

I was reading along thinking how fun it would have been to go on the Alpine Slide and then I got to thinking about a small, squiggly kid on the ski-lift and found it quite unnerving. Glad to hear there weren't any incidents.

P.S. You guys are champs for the one day drive. Applause here.

Nice vacation! Reminds me of the time we went with you up to your cabin in Vernal and tried to get on America's Funniest Home Videos...good times. :)
